Here's Micah napping. He loves sleeping in his car seat.

Mylie got some dress-up clothes from Meema (Eric's mom) for her birthday. She loves to put on the wings and she tells me she's a "pretty butterfly" or "a princess." She also loves to wear her "kitty boots."
Thought this was cute. Mylie is very into coloring right now.

This is the first time Mylie held Micah all by herself. This was one of the few pictures I took where her face wasn't right up against his. She is such a good big sister.

Here is Mylie with her tea set. She loves to pour tea for us and give us cakes to eat. This was a big sister present from Eric's BFF and GFF at work. They are so thoughtful.

Micah Lucas Matthies

On Friday, October 16th at 12:55 am we welcomed Micah Lucas Matthies into the world. Weighing 9 pounds and being 21 1/2 inches long. It was a lot of hard work bringing this little guy into the world.

Here he is just minutes after being born. He was nice and pink. :)
He was very alert and very hungry.

Here we are getting ready to go home less than 24 hours after he was born.

Mylie's 2nd Birthday

So, I know October is almost over, but here are some pictures of Mylie's 2nd birthday anyway. (Sept. 26th) Elmo is one of Mylie's favorites. So, for her birthday I attempted to make Elmo cupcakes. I think they turned out cute and maybe they don't look exactly like Elmo, but she thought they did and that's all that matters. :)

Here's the birthday girl, eating the first cupcake. She loved blowing out the candles, for the next few days she asked to blow out more candles.

By the time she finished her cupcake I think her whole face was covered in frosting.

Afterwards she opened her present from mommy and daddy.

She got crayons, a coloring book, and stuff.

Our Weekend

On Saturday, Mylie and I went to Eric's cousin's home in Tacoma to help celebrate all of the September birthdays in the Matthies family. Mylie was of course excited to eat "cu-cakes," she had two. Her face was a chocolaty mess afterward and so was her outfit, good thing mommy thought to bring extra clothes. :) I was having such a good time that I didn't take many pictures, sorry.

Yesterday, Eric and I took Mylie to the park. She loves the swings.

We had the park all to ourselves, it was so nice.

We were the only car in the parking lot.

Well, as you can see, Micah still hasn't arrived yet. I'm impatiently waiting. I can't wait to see him and hold him in my arms. Hopefully he won't keep us waiting too much longer.

What's New?

Tuesday evening, this female ring-neck pheasant visited our yard. She foraged for bugs in our lawn for about an hour. She was pretty big. Mylie kept calling her a duck and was very excited about seeing her. I was also very excited because we've never seen a pheasant in our own yard. My mom was over and got to see her too. I'm hoping she'll visit us again.

On Sunday, my mom watched Mylie all day so that Eric and I could go look at some cars. It was the longest we've ever left her and she did great. My mom said she only asked about us once the entire time we were gone. She had fun coloring and blowing bubbles with her Oma.

We looked at a few different Honda dealerships knowing exactly what we were looking for. We really wanted to find a used Honda CR-V. On Monday, we went back to one of the dealerships and bought this '05 Honda CR-V SE. Eric and I are really happy with our decision. The SE stands for special edition, so it's a lot fancier than what we thought we'd end up with. The color is called Sahara Sand. Mylie says she likes our "big car."

We bought our car at Jay Lee's Honda of Sumner from Joe Park and I have to say, if you live in the area and are looking for a Honda, it's the place to go and Joe is the guy to buy from. The great thing is that he wasn't a typical car salesman, he was just a really nice guy.

On Monday, we also had another ultrasound. Micah has grown a lot in the past four weeks. He went from weighing approx 5lbs 1oz to weighing approx 7lbs 10oz. This last ultrasound also showed once again that he looks developmentally ahead of schedule about a week. The ultrasound also showed that I have about three times the amount of amniotic fluid that there should be. Crazy, huh? He was also in a head down position, let's just pray that he stays that way and cooperates when the time comes. Donna, our midwife, said she doesn't think we're gonna make it to our due date of Oct 2nd. It sounds like Mylie could get a baby brother for her 2nd birthday (Sept 26th). Donna said to take it easy until tomorrow (Friday) when we'll be at 38 of 40 weeks, after that she said Micah could come at any time. I asked him nicely if he could just stay in until after this weekend because we have plans, but I told him, we're free next week.

I know I didn't post any new pictures of Mylie today, but I plan on taking lots of new pictures of her Saturday, at her cousins' house. We're going there to celebrate all of the September birthdays and there are a lot of them in the Matthies family. I'll try to post again on Monday, as long as Micah doesn't show up before then. :)

August?

This has been quite a busy summer. Sorry I haven't posted more. We've had Eric's mom and my dad both visit this summer. Mylie had a wonderful time with both of them. She loves all of her grandparents so much and often pretends to call them on the phone.

This summer the cherries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries have been abundant and we've kept busy picking them. Mylie's favorite are the blueberries of course. Eric has made jam with the berries we've picked. Hopefully he's made enough to keep up with his daughter's appetite. She loves peanut butter and jam sandwiches. :) If only she loved vegetables as much. She is quite a picky eater.

Last Sunday, Mylie got a big girl bed. The transition from crib to big girl bed couldn't have gone any smoother. We are very lucky! Here are some pictures of her room as it looks now. These are two pictures that were made especially for Mylie by the very talented Mallory Larsen. I'll be adding more birds to Mylie's room in the future, I guess that will be the "theme" in her room. She loves the outdoors.

Here is her table and chairs. Yesterday her Oma (my mom) tried to sit in the bear's chair and Mylie told her "up up" and then put the bear back in his chair. I guess her bear is the only one allowed in that chair.
This picture didn't come out very well, but these white letters are on the wall above Mylie's bed. It looks much better in person. As my mom and I were getting prepared to hang these letters on the wall, I asked Mylie if she could identify any of them. She was able to identify the M, L, and E. I was impressed.
This is Mylie's new big girl bed. It's a twin size bed set on the ground so that she can get in and out of it on her own. It's also low enough that we aren't worried if she falls out, although that has yet to happen.

These are Mylie's babies. They may just look like a couple of Piglets to you, but to her they are Piggy and Hoggy. She sleeps with them every night.

This picture was taken the first night Mylie slept in her big girl bed. It makes her look so small. We told her to say cheese and she did so very excitedly. We praised her and told her what a big girl she was.

Of course we've also been busy preparing for the arrival of our son. He'll be here so soon! For those of you that don't know his name already, we've decided on Micah Lucas Matthies. The only two names that Eric and I could agree on.

Thank you to those that have been praying for us. This coming Monday we will be having yet another ultrasound. There is excess amniotic fluid and it is giving Micah plenty of room to move around. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to want to spend any time in a head down position, which makes me a little anxious. I just want him in the right place at the right time, otherwise a c-section could be in our future. I hope that isn't God's plan. We'll be 37 weeks along tomorrow, it's getting close and my midwife thinks Micah may arrive early.

Meanwhile Micah's room is almost complete. I think the wall color looks even brighter in these pictures. His crib is now ready to go. Lots of green and brown.
Eric's mom bought the crib bedding and I absolutely love it! Aren't these blankets cute?

Micah and I will be spending a lot of time nursing in the glider. Luckily it's comfortable.

Yes, I know the changing table cover is pink, I plan to get a brown one soon. What can I say, it was Mylie's.

This is one of the things I made for Micah, a toy bucket. For now it holds blankets and this toy cat from my Aunt Olivia. This cat looks very similar to our cat, Chloe.

I also made these little wall pockets that will get hung up on his wall soon. They will eventually hold small toys and he will be able to access them himself when he's about Mylie's age.

Though the closet doors don't quite look white in this picture, they are. This rug matches the bedding.

Also, Eric was in a car accident last Friday. He's doing well and is now back to work. He got pretty bruised up, but no broken bones or serious injury. He was very lucky. His car was however totaled in the accident. We are now looking for a new car, well, used, but new to us. Please keep this in your prayers, we hope to find a new affordable car before Micah decides to be born.

Blueberries and A Cape?

One day last week Mylie decided to take her onesie off and then tried to put it back on. This is what resulted...

It ended up as more of a cape than anything.

She has been really interested in trying to dress herself. She is always trying to put her shoes on by herself, sometimes she even gets them on the right foot. She tries to put her pants or shorts on by herself too, sometimes both little legs get stuck down one pant leg. She's such a big girl.

Here is a video clip of the blueberries in our yard being picked. Mylie's T.T. (Tante Tiffany) and cousin Derek were picking some blueberries and so was Mylie. Notice where the ones Mylie picks end up. Notice also how she picks two at a time. At least she knows to pick the blue ones. :)

By the way, we have our baby boy's name down to four names we like. I can tell you this much, his name won't be Zachary. :) Also, thanks to my mother-in-law, our son has adorable new bedding for his crib, it's brown and shades of green. Eric bought the green paint for our baby boy's nursery. Now we just have to move furniture, paint, get Mylie a big girl bed, and we'll have his nursery all ready. If only it were that easy. :) Time has been flying by, I can't believe it's almost August.

Also we had an appointment with our midwife, Donna, on Tuesday. We'll be having another ultrasound on August 11. It sounds like there may be some complications with this pregnancy. We won't know much until after the next ultrasound. Please keep our baby boy in your prayers.

This weekend we are going camping at Mt. Rainier. Eric's whole family is going to be there. I know Mylie is going to have a great time playing with her cousins. I hope to take lots of pictures to share with you.

We've been having a heat wave here. Wednesday it was 104.2° here in the shade. I am happy to say it's finally cooling off a little. Normal weather this time of year is about 76°.
